RISE Universal Offer for Literacy
Earlier this year, Matrix Academy Trust proudly partnered with the DfE for their Universal RISE initiative, to deliver a comprehensive literacy improvement programme designed to strengthen reading, oracy and writing as the foundational knowledge that underpins success across the curriculum.
Some of the project’s achievements include:
- Engagement from over 50 schools from across the West Midlands, representing 39 Trusts
- A suite of 18 professional development events delivered, including conferences, webinars and live classroom practice.
- Over 65 hours of CPD provided to literacy leaders, teachers and school improvement colleagues.
- A potential reach of 3,150 secondary teachers and approximately 50,000 pupils through wider dissemination and implementation.
At the heart of this programme was a focus on moving beyond isolated CPD sessions for Literacy that just bolted on to the curriculum; this project supported leaders and teachers to put foundational knowledge at the forefront of the curriculum offer, to drive change across the whole school for the benefit of all. By combining research, practical classroom strategies, live practice, leadership development and a dedicated digital implementation platform, the project has supported schools to build sustainable, evidence-informed approaches to literacy and school improvement.
A huge thank you to the schools, Trusts, leaders and teachers who engaged with the project and continue to champion literacy as the gateway to learning and life chances.
