Community Spirit Raises £47,000
At Matrix Academy Trust, community is at the heart of everything we do—and this year, our schools and staff have shown just how powerful that spirit can be. We are thrilled to announce that our eight schools have raised an incredible £47,000 for Birmingham Children's Hospital Charity, our chosen cause for 2025.
Our fundraising journey began in January, when pupils from each of our schools came together for an inspiring presentation from Birmingham Children's Hospital. This kick-off event gave our young people the chance to discuss and develop their fundraising ideas before presenting them to their head teachers.
Since then, our schools have taken part in a wide range of activities to raise funds, from bake sales and charity football matches to colour runs and coin trails. At Barr Beacon School, students drew inspiration from their school houses—named after hills—and 40 pupils of all ages embarked on sponsored walks up Clent, Bredon, Wrekin, and Malvern hills.
Our staff were equally committed. In May, 59 colleagues from across the Trust and head office tackled the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge, climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England, and Wales in just 24 hours. Between the walking, climbing, and a total of 1,000 miles driven, the team raised funds while demonstrating incredible determination and teamwork.
Our fundraising efforts culminated at the October staff conference, where a raffle featuring generous prizes donated by suppliers and friends of the community added a further £6,000 to the total. When all was counted, the grand total of £47,000 was revealed—a truly remarkable achievement.
This incredible fundraising effort highlights what can be achieved when our schools and communities come together. The video accompanying this post showcases the heart, energy, and creativity of everyone involved in making a difference for the children and families supported by Birmingham Children's Hospital. Thank you to every staff member and pupil who made this possible, and to the hospital representatives who joined us to celebrate this amazing achievement.
