Permanent exclusion is the most severe disciplinary sanction available to UK school leaders, meaning a pupil is lawfully and permanently removed from the school roll. It is a decision that must only be used as a last resort, following a serious or persistent breach of the behaviour policy, and when allowing the pupil to remain would seriously harm the welfare or education of themselves or others.

This session will give leaders an understanding of the statutory guidance, what is required for a permanent exclusion to be upheld but also encourage participates to consider alternative solutions and the impact of permanent exclusions on pupil groups .

This session is suitable for pastoral senior leaders.
