The UK’s Biggest Sports Day?
More than 6,500 pupils came together at the iconic Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, home of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, for what we believe may have been the UK’s biggest school sports day.
The spectacular event brought together pupils and staff from across our family of schools for a day filled with competition, collaboration, performance, and celebration. With over 460 athletes competing across a range of track and field events, the stadium was buzzing with energy, determination and school spirit from start to finish.
Alongside the sporting action, pupils showcased their incredible talents through a variety of music and dance acts, highlighting the creativity and diversity that exists across our trust.
Secondary School Competition
Following an outstanding day of competition, Dame Elizabeth Cadbury School retained their title as Overall Secondary School Champions for the second year running. Barr Beacon School secured second place, with Wednesfield Academy taking third place overall.
The day also saw the introduction of a brand-new Staff Tug of War competition, which quickly became a crowd favourite. After a series of fiercely contested battles, Etone College emerged victorious to claim the inaugural title.
Primary School Competition
This year marked an exciting milestone as our primary schools competed for the title of Overall Primary School Champions. The competition was closely fought, with Pool Hayes Primary School taking first place and Bloxwich Academy Primary finishing a very close second.
The Return of the Headteacher Race
One of the most anticipated events of the day returned with an exciting new format. The traditional Headteacher Race was transformed into a challenge that tested teamwork, balance, agility and determination.
Participants navigated a series of obstacles including egg-and-spoon challenges, hurdles, tunnels and bean bag throws, all while attached to a partner in a three-legged race. The result was plenty of laughter, entertainment and healthy competition from our school leaders.
Mascot Mayhem
Another crowd-pleasing spectacle was the Trust Mascot Race, which saw more than 20 mascots representing schools from across the trust take to the track. With a colourful mix of animals and characters racing towards the finish line, it was a memorable highlight for students and staff alike.
After a closely fought contest, the mascot from Turves Green Boys’ School, Tolkien, sprinted to victory and claimed first place.
A Powerful Display of Unity
One of the most inspiring moments of the day came during our mass trust-wide dance performance. Over recent months, groups from each of our secondary schools had been learning the same choreography to a Michael Jackson classic.
In the afternoon, these groups gathered in the centre of the stadium to perform as one. Hundreds of students moving in unison created a powerful visual representation of what it means to belong to a trust: individual schools coming together to achieve something extraordinary.
Our Trust-Wide Sports Day was about far more than medals, trophies, and results. It was a celebration of collaboration, sportsmanship, resilience, inclusion and community.
From athletes striving for personal bests, to performers entertaining the crowds, staff supporting one another and thousands of pupils cheering from the stands, the day showcased the very best of our trust.
A huge thank you goes to all pupils, staff, volunteers and organisers who helped make this incredible event possible. Together, we created a truly unforgettable day and demonstrated the strength, talent and unity that exists across our schools.
