What a Day! Our First Trust-Wide Sports Day at Alexander Stadium

This week, we made history with our very first Trust-Wide Sports Day, bringing together seven schools and over 3,500 people at the iconic Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.

With 450 athletes competing in a range of events, plus fantastic dance and musical performances throughout the day, the energy and school spirit were truly unmatched. One of the highlights was the crazy mascot race, with an incredible 26 mascots dashing for glory — a huge well done to Turves Green Boys’ School for taking the coveted mascot crown!

On the track and field, our athletes gave it their all. Congratulations to Dame Elizabeth Cadbury School for finishing in first place overall, with Wednesfield Academy in second and Barr Beacon School in third.

We were also delighted to welcome talent spotters from the world of sport, who were hugely impressed with the incredible performances and potential on display — we can’t wait to see where our talented athletes go next! Supporting them every step of the way was the brilliant on-site physio team from the University of Birmingham, who were on hand throughout the day to keep our competitors in top form.

Adding to the excitement, everyone was treated to an ice cream delivery halfway through the day — much needed after all that cheering!

The day was brilliantly hosted by Mr Lowbridge-Ellis and Mr Davies, who kept the atmosphere buzzing from start to finish. A special thank you to Sir Mark Aspinall, our Chair of Trustees, for presenting the trophies and judging our spectacular banner competition, which saw Barr Beacon School take home the win for best spectators’ banner.

This event would not have been possible without the dedication and teamwork of so many people. Thank you to everyone who helped plan, organise, and deliver such a memorable day — from the staff and volunteers at each school, head office and school improvement team, the team at Alexander Stadium, our travel companies, the drivers of the 66 coaches that safely transported our pupils, and everyone who kept things running smoothly behind the scenes.

This is just the beginning — we’re thrilled that our Trust-Wide Sports Day will become an annual tradition. Thank you to everyone who made our first one such a resounding success. Here’s to next year, and many more to come!
