The Germany Turing was a great experience for the pupils how soaked up lots of German history and culture. 60 pupils across the Matrix schools spent a week in Berlin from 21st-27th March 2026.

On the first day pupils visited the Deutschland Museum soaking up rich history of Germany and Berlin, this set the scene for the rest of the trip and helped pupils immerse themselves in their surroundings. Later that day we had dinner at a traditional German restaurant, tucking into chicken schnitzel and apple strudel which were both received well (some staff eating three strudels for dessert).

The next day we saw the sights, taking a trip to Panorama Punkt where we rode the fastest lift in Europe to the top of Potsdamer Platz, 100m above the ground. After this we visited the aptly named Futurium museum, here we explored various scenarios and possibilities for the future of humans, nature and technology. Another highlight from this trip were visiting the historic Olympic Stadium, where we each received guided tours taking us behind the scenes and giving us wonderful stories of the great Jesse Owens and the impact he had in the 1936 Olympic games.

A harrowing but important element of our trip was the visit to the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. An incredibly moving visit which gave all of our pupils the opportunity to learn of the atrocities of which the aftermath was notably woven through each aspect of our trip. Our visit to the ‘East Side Gallery’ was a brilliant full circle moment towards the end of the trip where the pupils saw some magnificent artwork displayed on the remains of the Berlin wall, seeing how something that once divided people has now been used do bring joy through art.

Students demonstrated empathy, compassion and enthusiasm to an important trip with memories to last a lifetime. The Germany Turing was another successful international Matrix trip, here to many more!
